Homemade Truck Crane

Since the vid was done,I've mounted a 4000# rv. winch that I picked up from northern tool for under $200.00. Ran 00 cable to rear,picked up a couple of sheaves to run winch cable thru top beam. Winch came with control that mounts at rear of truck also has a 12' remote cable. I then mounted two rear stabilizers which were left over from a ride-on trowel that I no longer have. I adapted them to be operated with a battery operated drill. I cut grooves in a deep-well 5/8 socket that fit perfectly on top of stabilizers. It runs them up and down in seconds. All in all I'm really happy with the whole setup. So far I've lifted 1500 plus lbs several times without sweat. I wish i were savvy enough computerwise to post another video. That'll have to wait on the next time I get a visit from my son-in-law who lives 360 miles down the road.

In this case the strongest place to mount it was right in to the main frame of the truck bed. Also,nice thing about a flatbed is you can load from 3 sides.not limited to tailgate.

I like this idea. About the only thing I would do to improve upon the design is by placing the crane as far into the back corner as possible. Then it would not interfere with loading other stuff into the truck.
