Homemade articulating shop light constructed from lumber, nuts, bolts, electrical cord, and LED bulbs.

Excellent Idea. Few home shop ceilings are high enough to spread light effectively.
In reference to your comment about sag; reduce that with 'I' shape vertically compared to horizontal '--'. Increased sectional thickness makes the difference; as will cutting plywood instead of solid wood. and/ or tapering the length. Those complicate assembly a bit, but not adversely.
