Hey, I am new to this site and glad to have found it.
I was taught as a child, "if someone else can do it, so can I" so over the years I have rarely had any work done for me. I can't see my time being any less valuable than a tradesman simply because he has done the job before. There are occasions where I haven't had access to the tools needed to complete a job and that is why I am here.
I have plenty of tools including a drill-press and a welder, but now I also have a homemade foundry, and an anvil, with intent to convert an old gas grill into a forge and also to cast a metal working lathe.
Once I get my lathe built, convert my drill press into a mill and develop my skills in metal casting and forging. I see no reason to ever be without a tool again.
Anyone have any suggestions at all? I am all ears please hit me up.
Here is a "to do list". I would gladly take any advise and consider any plans offered. I do not have a set of "plans" for any of these projects ATM just intent. I am doing my research and looking for plans.
X-Y clamp
Metal lathe
Forge
Crucible tongs
Compound slide
Any advise on 3d printers would be great as-well. I have been watching the cost of 3d printers steadily decline over the last couple years. I believe that could be the easiest/quickest method for mold making and I am really tempted to get one next time I can free up some cash.
I also built a foam slicer but am having difficulties with it either being too cool and not cutting clean or to hot that the wire snapping if anyone has suggestions for this that would be great also
