This process looks a lot like serving a bowstring. In serving you wrap the bowstring with thread to thicken it where the arrows will nock on and protect it from the nock and Archer's fingers.

This process uses a tool to control the thread while you're wrapping it. I made a quickie version of the tool last week: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5030405
