The Frecciarossa does Naples to Rome in around an hour - very smooth and comfortable. My first experience of the TGV was in the 80's Paris-Lyon. didn't know how fast it was till I got out and looked at the time.

Ridden the TGV London to Paris, everything seems pretty fast until you travel under an overpass (in your car it's a calm slow event in the TGV it is a whoosh...what was that?) or pass a train going the other direction, at those points the speed is right in your face.
