    I was friends with someone who had a tilt-up panel slab fall and kill the guy next to him, and took my friend's hand. The surgeons essentially rebuilt the hand so it is like the hand of an action figure doll (relaxed half closed fist) and it is very rigid. He has kitchen appliances (eg bread knife) with a reversed vertical handle (eg pistol grip) and he "clicks" the handle into his hand, and then uses the elbow action to saw the bread, etc. His whole hand and wrist is rigid and inflexible.
    yes he was lucky, and his family has stood by him - but the impact on his working ability has been permanent
