Work piece support using a lathe and wood blocks

I have my small drill press mounted up on the elevated portion in my machine shop trailer.
the space right now is sort of a catch all but it serves for now.
When drilling parts several feet long I need something solid to rest them on.
What could be more solid than a 6000 lb lathe a 16" hunk of glue lam beam and an 8x10 block with a piece of 3/4" thick steel on top of that

Frank, I'm sure you could have substituted the kitchen sink for one of those blocks!
