Hi Gang:
On July 4th, 1976, I built this work bench from 2x3's I pulled from a dumpster:
Since it was the Bi-Centennial I carved the year on the front of the top:
It seems like yesterday, but I guess it has been a while.
The top is through bolted with 1/2" threaded rod and has one 2x4 across the back to keep things from slipping off. The square holes are for clamping cleats. I tried to even up the top, but it was rough as a corn cob. After 45 years I made a sled for my router and made the top flat and varnished it. Finally on a roll of improvement, I added three drawers.
I had found some fancy drawer slides at Habitat that were full extension. The top drawer is for router bits, 1/4" on the left and 1/2" shanks on the right. The orange trays are from tackle boxes I found in the trash and work nicely for the small bits.
The lower shelf had been a quagmire that was hard to find things. So two drawers with extra shelves would be nice.
So now I can quickly find items that had been lost in the back for years.
I hope there are some ideas here that you can use.
Good Luck, Carl.
