    Just trying to visualize the amount of labor it took to not only clear the route fell the trees construct the cradle cut the staves and plane them into shape make forge the fittings for the rod bands make the bands assemble the pipeline 1 stave at a time while having to install and tighten the bands as they went along. repeating the procedure over and over again

    We have one above us, a 6' plank pipe that runs from Nooksack Falls to Bellingham Wa. About 40 miles. Used to be the city water supply.
    I know water still flows through it but I think they diverted it to the lake when it was de-commisioned in the late 70's
    From the time you're born till' you ride in a hearse, there's nothing so bad it couldn't be worse!

    As the water initially flows there are many leaks. Overtime, the wood soaks up the water and expands, becoming watertight and sealing off all leaks. I remember the process taking at least a week to fill new 8,000 gallon redwood tanks.
