    Step 1. Cut 10" long piece of H-beam.

    Step 2 . Smash axe to one end of it.

    Step 3. Weld a little mild steel plate to other end of the H-beam.

    Very simple but working solution
    Actually stand is made from two U-channels.
    Ends are bend with heat and splines, then pieces are weld together.
    Weld is sanded to surface level and finally whole stand rusted with acid.
    After washing acid out, its dried with oxy-acetone torch, that makes surface instantly rusty.
    Finally layer of varnish.

    What is the timber used for the haft please? It certainly does not look like white hickory.
