I've done drill rig moves where we used 3 gin pole trucks to carry the complete rig by mounting a tower mounted 5th wheel on the lead truck the laying the top of the derrick on it backing 1 truck under the front of the substructure and backing one under the rear of the substructure 2 trucks drove forward while the one in the rear had to drive in reverse. Always a very delicate move almost never on a paved road surface and the bottom of the substructure skids were never more than a couple inches off the ground.
like having 3 trucks move that nacelle it requires good communications and equal skills by all drivers

I’ve seen this done over the ice in Prudhoe Bay.

Some smaller rigs with only a 16 ft tall substructure and a 98 ft derrick were drug from location to location while standing by dozers, usually half a mile or less.
