In the largest of them there can be a hundred + gallons of hydraulic oil for cooling and to supply fluid for several 20 to 50 hp electric motors to power hydraulic pumps which operate the various controlling systems such as the yaw and blade pitch, miles of insulated conductor wiring switch gear electrical panels the size of large refrigerators, the generator and gear box is larger than a full sized pickup truck, with all of this there is still room for a couple technicians to walk around inside to inspect and service the systems. The older smaller 500 to 1000 KW units still had most of these components, but crammed into a much smaller space, think of how people used to try and see how many folks could be packed into a VW beetle.

When traveling states comprising the Great Plains, it's beyond staggering how many have been installed, or guess what percentage is subsidized. Aside providing ample work to who makes them, who transports materials in and product out, builders of the capital manufacturing equipment, crane - concrete - millwright crews, those records aren't too hard digging up.
Try finding info on the output/ offset of hydro, coal, gas or nuclear generated power, or who tops that heap of cash.
