Well............Oxford dictionary proclaims, it being North American in origin and use
Dictionary
coot·ie
/ˈko͞odē/
Learn to pronounce
nouninformal•North American
plural noun: cooties
a body louse.
US
a children's term for an imaginary germ or repellent quality transmitted by obnoxious or slovenly people.
Origin
First World War: perhaps from Malay kutu, denoting a parasitic biting insect.
Not a serious condition, coincides with time before children's hormones kick in, often when attraction is masked by remark "ewwww, she [or he] has cooties!".
Just as funny now as ever.
Sincerely,

The morning of August the 5th 1977 after my 5 AM morning shave I held a razor burial ceremony I had returned from being stationed in Germany to FT Jackson SC. 3 days before my ETS. Why I couldn't have ended my tour of service in Germany instead of having to fly to FT Jackson is beyond reasoning but anyway there I was standing at the sink in front of a mirror in the Barracks with half a dozen dulling razors carefully arranged picking up one dragging it across the 3 day stubble on my face then disassembling it inspecting each component then one piece at a time tossing them into the trash bin reciting last rites and bits of the funeral dirge to each piece as i did so, when a young soldier noticed what I was doing asked me Sargent what are you doing.
I replied these razors have served me faithfully for most of the last 6 years I've been counting down the days since 1971 until I would never be required to shave every day From this day forward if I shave it will be of my own volition not because of some regulation requiring my face to be shorn to the smoothness of a newborn babies behind, if I ever own another razor it will be one of those throw away one time use things
I guess that was probably my single most memorable shave of my entire life
Never try to tell me it can't be done
When I have to paint I use KBS products
