Was this a practical joke on the new guy? It fell apart on the bead breaker. The glue on the bead must have been the only thing holding that rim together.

If that were due to overinflation it would have flown away in an instant.

I would say that rubber band tire cracked the rim while being driven maybe over inflated maybe not but a pothole could have caused a crack which immediately would cause the tire to lose inflation. the crack would have continued all the way around as the vehicle was being driven. The side wall on those tires is so small it is hard to know if you have a flat. nova_robotics had a point the only thing holding that rim to the tire was the bead itself. The crack may not have been all the way around until the bed breaker pushed against the rim.
Never try to tell me it can't be done

Too thin in cross section at the base of the spokes in the well where the stress is highest.

My take on this guys is that he forgot to pull the valve core on the valve stem and tried to unseat the bead of the tire without deflating the tire first. Weak rim? Yes but looking closely at the machine and tire at the moment of separation looks like the tire forced the rim apart. Compressed by the bead breaker arm/tool.

My though... for what ot's worth.
