Why is there oil in a truck hub?
    How often is it changed?
Does it have to be replenished between changes?

    Thanks.

#1 - because oil lubes the wheel bearings
#2 - that is a “service call” for the owner. I typically changed the differential oil, which is the same lube as the wheel hubs & lubes the wheel hubs by the oil migrating along the axle shaft “to” the wheel hub & returns to the diff. by gravity in the axle tube, once a year, in heavey duty use in the oilfield. With that said it may get changed more often when you “blow a diff” & will have shrappnel everywhere that gas to be cleaned out.
#3 - no it doesn’t have a need to be replenished. My service schedule was a complete grease, inspection, every 100 engine hours. If a diff seal was leaking , then it would be repaired & the diff oil topped up.
Note- whenever a wheel & hub is removed you will loose oil. There is a plug in the hub that can be removed to replenish the oil in the hub after the wheel/hub has been reinstalled.
