Medical malpractice estimates vary from 45,000-400,000.

Excessive used of alcohol apparently kills around 95,000 people per year in the US.

I think I like my odds with guns better. Been shooting since I was 4, am now 66. One of the ways to reduce the gun death statistics is to get folks properly trained in gun safety. There are 4 primary rules of gun safety:

Treat all guns as if they are always loaded.
Never let the muzzle point at anything that you are not willing to destroy.
Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.
Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

Guns do not shoot themselves, generally speaking. Some person points them at themselves or another person.

Something else the statistics you quoted ignores. Defensive use of guns in the US are estimated at about 1 million per year. Not all of those defensive uses result in a person being shot, either. https://www.ammoland.com/2021/09/sub...#axzz76jNn8d00
