I have seen potatoes transported into a large food plant using a man made running creek where the railroad or trucks could open a hopper bottom and dump directly into the water. When they reached the inclined conveyor, they were pretty much mud and dirt free. Then they would go through a secondary wash system. A cheap way to transport some commodities.
