    Wanted To Buy

    Hi Guys,

I need to buy a Die and an intermediate Tap 8 - 40 tpi for a gun smith project and they are unavailable here in Australia. Does anyone have them for sale or the name of a company that I can buy from who will post to Australia. Thanking you in advance for your help.

    Have you tried Amazon?

They have them here in USA...

    https://www.amazon.com/IRWIN-1126ZR-...words=8-40+tap

It might be worth a check on the Australian version of Amazon, if there is such a thing.

    Brownells...

    https://www.brownells.com/

    would certainly have it.

You might want to contact them to determine if they will ship to Oz.

    Hi Marv,

    Thank you for the lead.

Amazon Australia will ship the Tap from the US to me, still searching for the elusive Die, none show On Amazon or Ebay and Irwin Tools won't ship to Australia.
Any other handy leads you may wish to share.

    Regards

    Dick

Well, Brownells have them, look for part number 395-840-004WB on this page near the bottom...

    https://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-t...prod41634.aspx

However, they're very proud of them - their price is USD 38.99, or AUD 52.42 at current rate. Staggering. And I don't know if they ship to Oz; you would have to ask them.

At prices like that it's worth taking a stab at making your own.

    Wholesale tools lists them here...

RDX 13/16" OD High Speed Special Dies

at a more sensible price ($6.60) but I doubt they ship to Oz; might check though.

Perhaps you Australian metalworkers should find an expat Aussie here in the States and set him up to have small parts like this delivered to him whereupon he sends them as "gifts" to you in Oz.

    Hi Marv,

I have a Brownells Account but they will no longer ship to Australia, must be all about "Making America Great Again and Free Trade".

Tried to open an account with Wholesale Tools but there is no where to complete the Account Details as they only list American States and Territories.

Yes would be nice to have an expat Aussie who could be a go between, you know you can't even get past the restrictions as as soon as you enter an Australian Debit or Credit Card it just says "Bugger Off American Cards Only".

Spoke to a local hardware Chain this morning and they can and will order them in for me as long as I have the Suppliers Name and the part numbers so fingers crossed that they do.

Thanks for your help and leads Mate much appreciated.

It may be a little late but there are some taps and dies on Ebay but I didn't check to see where they ship to.

If a US company won't ship something to AUS, it can be obtained using shipping forwarding company like Shipito (there are others). You open an account, they give you a US address to use when purchasing online (essentially a postbox within their warehouse), and when your purchase arrives at their premises they ship it to you in AUS. I have used Shipito many times without problems when buying from Amazon etc. They charge a small handling fee and you obviously have two sets of shipping charges (vendor to Shipito warehouse, then Shipito to you) but if it's not available in AUS...
