    Interesting, lots of manpower required. First to layout all of the drop cloths then do pick up the walnuts. I wonder if the trees feel any ill effects?

    They've got that covered now. I've seen this style shaker used in some of the large walnut plantations in California...

    I wonder why there is barren soil all around those trees? Seems rather odd.

    Unknown, but same around pistachios. Smaller orchards pick them by hand, summer employment for high-schoolers. In small groups, with a basketball player to really pick a tree clean.
