    That was modern when I worked on my Father's farm. Still perfectly usable. How would they build straw bale houses without these?

    I remember those. My dad would have thought that pulling that gatherer was sacrilege though - anything that make it easier was no good and not to be trusted. I graduated from high school on crutches because I sank a hay hook in my leg the day before. Maybe cattle and horses like it but I hate hay.
    If you can't make it precise make it adjustable.

    I would not consider that vintage, it is my newest baler and uses a special disc knotter instead of the old bill-hook system that everybody else still uses. Made for synthetic twine and mine has never missed a bale.
