    Video projects and other languages

    Hi.

I am doing tool making videos as well as not tools but matters almost always relate do mechanics (sometimes electronics also).

I usually also do not publish project drawings and photos other than in the video themselves. I noticed that most people here do publish drawings and photos. Videos take long time do produce and I would like not to spend more time talking than walking the talk.

Now, I produce the videos in my language, Portuguese, because I fount out that there are already many guys doing excellent jobs in English and there seems to be a enormous lack of material in Portuguese. Nevertheless there are unfortunately not so many people in Portugal with enough knowledge of English to properly follow the matters.

As you may know, the very same language is spoken in Brazil but I am not sure my accent as Portuguese citizen is well understood against the accent from Brazil. The other way around is no problem.

Does it make sense or eventually will I make things uncomfortable for anyone for coming here and present my videos in Portuguese even proposing myself to make small presentations text of these videos both in Portuguese and English?

    Thank you for your support,

    Serra Cabo

The digital age has given us a global community, videos are a great way to present something, especially if you don't know the language. Try to be detailed enough that you can explain everything in the video and not only in your speaking.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't [post, but I am not a moderator to make that call.

    But I vote yes.

I think, generally, the best rule is: post whatever you've got, and let the internet do the rest. After all, English is only the third-most popular language, after Mandarin and Spanish (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ative_speakers).

Sometimes I will find a DIY video on youtube, presented in a language I don't understand, that's still extremely useful because of the video content itself. If I see an article I like, in a language I don't understand, I'll run it through Google Translate. The result is never perfect, but it's usually close enough.

We recently implemented a Best Documented Build award, and we intentionally crafted the award description to include videos, diagrams, and photos, so that non-native English speakers would have a good chance at winning.
