Just go straight to the heat. These old shafts never come off. The sheave looked wrecked anyway. Get the carbon rods and gouge it out. I was on a job where a 400mm, 30 year old shaft that was secured with a Ringfeder NEEDED to come out. Yeah... zero percent chance of that happening. 12 hour or so later of gouging and it was free. If it's surgically clean, and been bathed in grease its entire life then maybe. If it's some scabby old piece of junk that's been out in the elements for decades it just isn't going to happen.
