That was a great find.
There are many advantages to a machine like this if you have the building height to accommodate it.
The small footprint compared to a horizontal would be the first Gravity to assist in washing the honing swarth out of a cylinder would be the second in my book.
one big disadvantage would be the height of a building required if you needed to modify the machine to hone very long cylinders . another would be the practical limit to the height of the machine to keep it ridged enough to be stable
