Careful Jon you are getting into a field where I spent nearly 30 years researching and developing machines.
The main problem with the Carosel as they are called is the retrieval time. the second problem is the mass to be moved and brought to rest the 3rd issue is load balancing the Times when all platforms are empty on either side while the other is fully loaded a tremendous amount of strain is placed on the drive mechanism.
systems similar to the video have been around since the 1920's here in the USA. Japan began manufacturing their versions I think sometime in the 1950's or 60's but I can not verify that

My machines were most 2 and 3 level but I had designed based on the Central Well car park built in England sxcept my machine would have been completely autonomous

It is interesting, the first thing I thought of Frank, was the stability. I can't imagine peak hour or a natural disaster nearby or a terrorist one. Then again if public transport was better all around the world would we need such structures. Also I was in a lift, in the Brisbane City Hall, in the early 70's when a guy was caught and the lift started to move off to another floor & there wasn't much technology then to stop it. Between a couple of us we managed to free him within a couple of feet of movement while all others were in shock. I'm sure many others have witnessed similar.

I would love to have this in my garage, but I would have to literally raise the roof. That way I could keep my MG up in storage and actually park my normal car in the garage. Those are all amazing designs. Thanks for showing us how it is done.

For some of the installs I actually did cut out the rafters and reshape them to allow the top of the car to rest between them
To know if the customer had enough clearance prior to the sale we would ask for the ceiling height and the height of both vehicles only needed an extra 4 inches of the combined vehicle height. You can not believe how many people couldn't even get the correct height of their cars and many would forget about having a garage door opener right in the middle. Easy to get a vehicle height just place a towel on the top of the car and lower the door until it touches add the 2 numbers and 4 inches together if less than the distance from the floor to the ceiling then they were golden.

Ha Ha! That reminds me of my wife who thinks I'm A math genious as always asking "what is this plus that?". Use a calculator! you are faster! no i'm not, use a tape.etc etc. "600 is about that long".I remember reading about a chap, in the US,who cut a hole in his floor of his home so he could use his Leigh Jig to cut dovetails in long boards from the floor below. Try cutting by hand. Where there is a will there is a way: like your catch phrase.

I'd really like to have one of those vehicles now at their condition then.
In the 1960's when I did year 12 at high school (for graduation to uni or civie street), we had to write an essay about fixing the parking problems & the use of cars in the CBD of the city of Brisbane. Those days it had a whopping population of about 600,000=ha,ha. My idea was to use the floors above &/or below the ground level for parking in high rise buildings, shops etc and to reduce the price of public transport. I was "failed: for my rediculous suggestions. Today we have such stupidity & with well over double that population there is still congestion. It takes my son about 2 hrs to travel from north lakes to the CBD on public transport (combination of walking, a bus & 2 trains) . Governments allow developments of areas without properly considering the infrastructure. Brisbane used to be in the top 3 biggest municipalities in the world= in 1925, a precedent was set when 20 city, town & shires amalgamated to form a more effective council : the knockers said it would not work. In recent times Melbourne & Sydney have basically copied the amalgamation of some councils for efficiency, forced by their state governments. The savings in top admin alone is astronomical eg: 1 CEO instead of 20, 1 deputy Ceo instead of 20, Less Plant & equipment, Less depots to house the plant
