I saw this on line while watching a video and it looked so good I had to make one.
The demo that I was watching was using an Aloris cartridge insert tool bit.
This unit could be set to various angles in multiples of 15 degrees.
I wanted mine to be any angle! So I left out the cogs and just made a smooth cartridge.
I am using TCMT carbide bits but HSS bits are available and I am waiting for mine to arrive.
I cut a steel rod in the lathe. Faced it, turned a shoulder, made a chamfer, and turned a cylinder without
changing the tool bit. On my mini lathe I made cuts of .020 infeed or .040 material removal per pass and
the operation went smooth without the insert moving and without chatter. What more do I need?
TCMT insert use an M2.5x.45 tapered screw..(get mine from LMS)
The cartridge is retained with an 8-32 allen cap screw.
So here a couple of pics and my simple drawing of this versatile tool bit.
Make one, you will love it.
Cheers, JR
