Ever wanted to control something from across the room?
- Open/Close the drapes?
- Adjust an AC/heater vent?
- Turn one of those decorative waterfalls On/Off?
- Control a light?
- Start/Stop a vacuum in your shop?
- Control a shutter on a skylight?
- Many, many more uses.
Well, now you can. Almost every household has devices (TV, VTR, DVD, Blueray, Cable, etc.) that use IR remote controls: all of these have hand held IR remotes. And many households, like mine, have one or more old and unused remotes that controlled devices that have gone to electronics's heaven long ago. Now any two buttons on your choice on these remotes can be used to control any electric or electronic devices that you can construct.
These plans include:
- A 17-page PDF manual with Bill of Materials.
- Complete schematic and parts list with sources.
- Detailed, step by step directions for the construction of the receiver.
- Instructions for programming it to function with any two remote buttons that you choose.
- Ideas and suggestions for customization of the receiver as needed for your project.
- Numerous diagrams and technical drawings.
The user of these plans has several options for obtaining the necessary parts for this project.
First, a kit with all the parts, including the PCB is available on E-Bay. This contains everything needed to assemble a working receiver except solder and tools.
Full Kit
Next, a "bare bones" kit which consists of only the PCB and the instructions is also available on E-Bay. The purchaser will need to obtain the other parts that are needed.
PCB Only Kit
Finally, the images of the foil pattern are included with the download of these plans so the user can obtain the parts separately and make the PCB using any of a variety of methods that are described in numerous sites on the web.
To make purchasing the parts as easy as possible, the included parts list details the specs of all the parts and lists one possible supplier for each one with their stock number.
Feel free to post any questions you may have in this discussion, either before you download the free plans or during construction. Or, post pictures of your finished remote receiver.
