I have a Unimat 3 that I've used since I was 11 years old - some 40 years ago now...
Anyway, I'm with Paul in that the best way to reduce chatter is to lock any unwanted movement axes, keep the tool overhangs to a minimum and use cutting oil - cutting oil on small lathes can be troublesome, but I find using a blush to apply it from an old mug or jar works perfectly. Just remember to label the container.
Also, I've added a calculation page to my calculators for cutting speeds - easy to use: Workshop Calculator – glue-it.com
