    there was one of these tests where they drilled a 10 ft wide hole, 100 ft or so down, lined it with a ft thick of concrete, and a A-bomb at the bottom ,then they put a very large manhole cover on top,and detonated it,,,if the force didnt destroy the cover ,,then its the first man made object to escape the earth and venture into space,, a manhole cover.....

    The boffins have since determined that it had to have burned up in the atmo before it reached space because it was traveling as fast as an incoming meteorite, and couldn't have survived the trip.

    That gif was actually the collapse as the chamber cooled. This originally wasn't supposed to happen as it could let radioactive gasses escape.

    I would be interested to know how deep that detonation was, and how long after that the collapse happened. I wonder if the sand humped upward then the explosion happened?
