There are all kinds of 2-wheel dollies that you’ll find on YouTube, blogs, etc., but what makes this one so unique that I call it “The Ultimate 2-Wreel Dolly?”
I designed this dolly such that it is fully adjustable. There is no gluing, screwing, or nailing. Instead, a couple of ¼-20 bolts go through a number of shims and a couple of guides, held together with wing nuts. The axle is a ½” diameter hex head bolt and can be fastened with a nut. Optionally, you can drill a small hole at the end so you can use a Clevis or Cotter pin for more rapid changes.
You can make any number of shims of varying thicknesses. The shims located inside the guides determine the width of the sheet material you can use in the dolly. Moving shims to spread the guides wider for thicker material or closer for thinner materials is fast and easy. Shims not used are stored on the outside of the guides. This way, you won’t lose the shims and the length of the bolts remain the same (you don’t have to keep looking for different lengths of bolts with every change).
The Guides and shims were made from scrap pieces of plywood, and the fasteners are inexpensive. The wheels cam from Harbor Freight Tools and I used discount coupons, so they only cost me about 3-1/2 bucks each.
I think you’ll find this dolly a great addition to your shop – One dolly fits all! No longer do you have to have several different sized 2-wheel dollies!
