    Just use a small screwdriver to spread the first turn away from the rest or, if you do a lot of these, buy some pliers made for the job...

    I have always just used my thumbnail. to spread the ring open enough to get the first key started then slid the rest of the keys in behind it.
    Never try to tell me it can't be done
    When I have to paint I use KBS products
