I Remember making one of those during my apprenticeship. The threads on the trichotometric support were two start threads one was machined as a left hand thread the second start was machined as a right hand thread. Machining the threads like this allowed the ambihelical nuts to be fitted either way around.
It was necessary to be careful though when fitting the nuts, if they were screwed on too far they would then begin to loosen or undo themselves!
