Don't the trains in Spain run mainly in the plain?

I would find that troublesome changing width at speed. Each truck on the train has to change in turn at the right time or you wind up with a right mess. Seems like something you do slowly with the ability to stop if one mechanism is bunged up.

There probably several safeguards built in. Perhaps one or more of them does stop the train if something goes wrong. In time? Perhaps.

If they did not do it that way, then they will find out when the first big disaster happens. Unfortunately we poor humans are all to frequently the ginny-pigs for the latest and greatest.
