looks like wheat straw - often shipped to feedlots to be the roughage the bovines need to consume - mixed into a feed with protein, minerals, etc.

They do the same with grass straw, but the field would be more green. If it were oat straw, it would be a lighter brown - kind of like a sun faded kahki.

They take those 4x4x8 bales and put them in a big hydraulic press to squeeze them down even more before they are re tied and put into shipping containers when going overseas. That would an interesting video to watch...

There are some wheat farmers a couple counties over from me, most of their fodder after harvest gets ground right in the fields then hauled in bulk transport grain trailers to the feed mill very seldom do they bale it.

They don't do extra work if they don't need to, plenty of options...

Baling is when it needs to either be stored or shipped. There are a bunch of tarped stacks near here, probably 6 bales wide, a good 200 ft long, not sure how tall (didn't see them stack it).

Yep extra work means more fuel more equipment wear and tear more time spent in the field smaller bottom line. The farmers are getting shafted big time right now as it is. I couldn't blame them if they just set fire to all of their crops and let the millions of unknowing uncaring undeserving. starve
