    I have no doubt that your axial-plunger-pump will work. But I would fear the friction between plungers and the swashplate; and the complications from hardening.
    Easier to manufacture would be a radial-plunger-pump; excenter-driven.You will need some 'special' valves. Look for priceworthy italian ones, and very compact SUN (great support). Looking forward to your next accomplishment. And thank you for the music.
