Yeah that was really a smart thing to do. Those machines can cost upwards of 3 million dollars for the best models. it takes days to start them up to full magnetic saturation and an equal amount of time to cycle them down.
Never try to tell me it can't be done

There was a case in New York a while back where a kid was killed by some kind of tank in the room someone had brought in and wasn't removed before they turned on the MRI machine. It flew into the end of the machine and killed the kid.

MRI is fundamentally the same instrument as NMR, which we use to characterize chemical structure. It's primarily used in chemical synthesis. We use it to make sure we're getting what we intended to get. Oh, yeah, no metallic objects in the NMR room, either. Fun facts to know and tell.
