Thickness sander, with gearbox table lift

    Hi friends,
Something more complex than the last : My homemade thickness sander.
I tried to make it versatile: when not in use, I add a top and it becomes a gluing table in the middle of my shop.
I can also extend the shaft of the roll in order to power a buffing wheel.

It's described in details on my site, here : La Belle Note - Thickness sander

Have a look to my very special table lift system, based on wooden gears, inspired by the Master : Mathias Wandel ! (I say hello to him if he reads this)

Nice sander Christophe. How wide is the drum and what motor did you use?

    Hi,
It is a 48 cm long drum, 10 cm in diameter.
The motor is a washing machine engine.
It's labeled 1/2 HP, but the torque is great.
The bearings are also homemade, I inlaid two ball bearings in two pieces of hardwood.
But indeed, one of the bearings needs to be replaced, so I will replace by 2x2 bearings next time.
    Cheers !
    Christophe

Great-looking tool as usual, Christophe. I like the fact that you can use that table for more than just sanding.

    Really ?
My apologize, it's probably my Anti Spam that filters some addresses.
May I ask where you are located ?
    What is you IP ?
I will try to understand the issue.
    Sorry for that.

    I am in Australia.

I am not sure what you mean by IP (Internet protocol) - my IP *address* is dynamically assigned by my ISP (TPG).

    Cheers,

    Gary
