What is the purpose of all of the holes in the plate? Are they through holes or are they tapped?

Hi Ralph, Basically the holes may be overdone but they do make it easier to fix just about anything
to the base for secure tapping. Parts won't move around when tapping. Also they help for holding
parts that have unique shapes. Just use some milling table type clamps or a small vise.
    Very versatile.
