    tapered alignment / anvil punch

Yesterday while installing the spindle bushings in the 8n ford front axle one of the bushings was going in too tight and bulged out in the center.
I grabbed a piece of round stock , machined it down to the ID of the bushings then machined a 10° starting taper and finished off with a 3° taper
Then I drove it through the housing from the end that already had the bushing installed through the damaged bushing and used it as an anvil to reshape the bushing
    Driven through bushing reshaped

After driving the punch out the nose was flattened but that was because of the tight fit and the softness of the steel
