In my opinion tailgaters are in the same class as those who pass you then cut back in front and stomp on their brakes. They deserve what they get even if they remove themselves from the gene pool. in the process as long as they don't take others with them from their stupidity.

I don't think so, or at least they are not supposed to, The ABS probably has something to do with preventing it but in some cases, it is my opinion and my opinion only that air bags can be more dangerous than not having them. but there are statistics if we can believe what is written about them to the contrary. the 3 vehicles I own that have them, are currently not registered for highway use have the air bag relays removed. I don't want them going off while driving in the woods or on the property if using them as push vehicles.
There have been so many recalls on air bags it is difficult to understand the true nature of some of the recalls. I have a 2007 Ford Ranger we bought wrecked and was repairing it. When I ran the vin a recall notice popped up for the passenger air bag. I called and they came and replaced it, free of charge but not the driver's side. Later we found out there was a question as to whether or not 1 or the other of the air bags may have caused the accident. It is my understanding from the original accident report that there was no passenger involved in the accident even though that air bag had deployed.
One thing that nearly every car manufacture does recommend though is to sit back as far away from the steering wheel or dash on the passenger side as possible to prevent injury from them. What about people who are short in stature How do they fit in this picture? are air bags safe or are they dangerous will they save your life but badly injure you while saving you?

I understand that the air bag trigger is set to go off at a 9G impact.

As with plethora of mandated enactments and general remedies, there "could be known side effects". Some are declared life threatening.
'Could be' & 'known' in the same statement; enough to be statistically prevalent?

Every manufacturer has different specs beyond what is required by the government, but it generally takes the activation of at least two impact sensors over around 28 mph to deploy the air bags. Hard braking shouldn't do it.

And the better alternative to air bags is?

World wide air bag deaths from air bag malfunction...under 100 unfortunate people.

An actual driver safety educational program. One that stresses the importance of attentiveness, the awareness of collision avoidance. by maintaining sufficient following distance proper lane control. allowing sufficient braking distances for vehicle size, weight and road conditions. observing and obeying road signs. not driving with their radios so loud they cannot hear the other vehicles, leaving their cell phones switched off while driving, and not driving while drunk or high would be a start.
