    Thanks!! Has to be the best instruction for scribing an index dial and adding the numbers I have seen!!

    I was worried about hold the tool level, I think your comments describe adequately what to do to "lock it in".

    I just finished mine. A really good project. Turned out nice. I don't have any straight knurls so used a fine diamond but sort of botched it. Not sure if it was the gummy aluminum or operator error. Also my knurler is for 2" max diameter so had to set it up off center quite a bit, I'm sure that didn't help. Also I had no way to mark out the thou and half thou lines so this is how it will be.

    You may have alternate methods to mark .001 and intermediate halves. It depends on the diameter relation to dividing sensible degrees. It might only take a height gauge and scriber.
    Lots of folks print a degree wheel and chuck the part in their lathe.
    You could print a linear scale and vernier, or attach a small travel indicator, or add plunger and detents but that might be crowded. Another comes to mind using a convenient pitched screw or micrometer head...Here it would 'monitor' movement separate from the actual screw doing the offset.
    A differential screw wouldn't need much travel and be any rotational increments desired.

    A diamond knurl can do single angled knurls, just remove one wheel. There is much ado about which knurl -straight or diamond- for certain uses. That applies more to commercial products, and deeper product pockets. A better guide is to apply them per task at hand. Diamonds do NOT have to be fully formed, just sort of deep scribed lines and work nicely.

    You did a beautiful job ddickey !
    I made a graduated scale drawing that was to be printed on decal paper for people that had no way of indexing those graduations, as long as you held the diameter of the hand wheel as stated on the drawing otherwise you can measure the diameter of your hand wheel and do a cad drawing yourself that will match the circumference of your wheel, that's how I made the original.

    Other than that you did a beautiful job and great work !
