It looks like an automotive version of the popular NPC meme: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NPC_(meme)

I can see their reasoning. They are in business to make money. Concept cars are to get an idea of what the public might like.
How many different car models have been made in the past which flopped?
How about the new designs which caused an entire brand to fail?
Then we add planned obsolescence.
It creates cookie cutter cars, phones, people, educations, music, and politics. ALL without risk and thinking.
Successful people are the lucky ones with a concept that works and sells. Not necessarily the best concept or product. (VHS Vs Beta. Blu Ray Vs HDVD)
For each successful product or person, how many products and people have failed?
Either way, they sell for what is hidden in their true ancestry; station wagons.
Still useful but somehow became objectionable label, now choice de rigueur among Soccer Moms everywhere.
So, a tweak of profile, some wowee doors, less than 360 visibility with non-windows and insane A,B or C pillars, same headroom & amount of seats with lesser capacity of volume and length is revolutionary? Includes some manufacturers going all out with "Sport" models for Pop.
Yeah baby, production open class road racing, here I come.
