Nice and clean that 'sample', the installed is usually filled with tar/bitumen or similar to fill the voids to prevent crushing and is an absolute nightmare to work with, the French were still using it in optical fibre cables the last time I looked, and insisting any repair work done on French owned fibre was done using Alcatel manual fusion splicers, which with a good operator had a 25% success rate on average on a ship in flat still conditions, the Japanese automated fusion splicers averaged better than 99.5% on a rolling ship in heavy seas...
