    Stromberg 97 Jet Tool

A client brought me his vintage wooden race boat with a flathead Ford equipped with Edelbrock heads, Offy intake and two Stromberg 97 carbs. The carburetors had been sitting with water in them over the winter. I tore them down to put them in the ultrasonic cleaner. The main jets require a special tool which I do not have.

The cavity for the tool is small and I had nothing that would directly fit.

I found a short piece of 7/32 square brass tubing that when hammered on worked perfectly.

Chances are I will not need it again but I have it and it only took a minute to make...

Some of the older vintage carbs and other things can be perplexing when trying to find a tool to disassemble or reassemble. It would be very unlikely that you could find them still in inventory on a tool truck or any tool specialty store these days.
Your work around was a good one. Might not have worked all that well being brass had you tried to remove the jets before cleaning though.
Never try to tell me it can't be done

I did clean the carb first and I'm sure that helped. I did find quite a few 97 jet tools available online in the $20 to $40 range, but why buy one when I can make one at home...Stromberg 97 Jet Tool-download-12-.jpeg
