This is a photo from an abandoned quarry in North Eastern Massachusetts. The quarry was abandoned over 100 years ago. The story we heard was they just closed one day, sent all of the workers home due to lack of demand for their product. There are huge chunks just laying around.

In the photo you can see all of the holes, drilled by hand, for the feathers and wedges. The split block in the background shows the hole very clearly.
