Another proof of Mike Rowe's "Safety Third" concept. NO program form of administrative oversight makes this safe, or more correct term 'safer'. The young lady is obviously comfortable with the routine but not complacent. This is real safety; first person.
That does not mean I approve of the process, but realize supporting herself is a powerful motivation.

Others have a well developed sense of rhythm. Does every drummer watch each action of percussion? Are there pianists, harpsichordists, banjo players that need observe each of two separated hand movements? Granted, the injury potential is nil, but far more complicated.

Most people call it practice or experience. I will say, if it were me, I would have invented some kind of tool to use rather than my hands, but she seems comfortable with it. I always said, the best safety equipment is the thing that keeps your ears separated.

I play piano myself, so I can relate. However, I can't personally recall ever hearing anyone breaking a hand playing a musical instrument (not that it somehow hasn't weirdly happened somewhere...).

Not to get on a self righteous safety high horse, but complacency is one of the biggest reasons that people get hurt. Just like crossing railroad tracks without looking both ways just because you don't hear the train coming, it's an invitation for regret.
