I fell out of a tree head first into a huge Prickly Pear when I was about 7 or 8 and got multiple thorns in me. Some 30 years later I got a sore toe and about a week later a tiny lump developed and when I popped it a thorn about that size came out.

I was installing hardwood flooring in my wood shop, last year. This was #4 or worse oak quality. 5" wide. I brushed my left hand along the edge while reaching for another piece, and a sliver from the edge was driven deep into the outside palm of my left hand. I could not remove the piece, and suffered pain for over a month, I finally got the Exacto knife out to really cut deep and get to it. Once the surface was opened, pushing on the area popped the sliver out.

Our daughter was in a car accident when she was 17 years old. Mainly, she had a broken jaw and lots of small pieces of tempered glass bits under the skin. When she was trying on her heavy wedding dress at age 22, she had a shoulder strap bothering skin. She picked around a bit and out came another piece of glass.

FWIW, many, many years ago I had a metal sliver removed from my right eye by a doctor.
