I am not buying that!!!! There had to be at least a superficial cut in the skin of the apple for it to break that cleanly.

Spinning a CD until it explodes.

Each time you see the explosion, it appears to originate at one very specific spot along the edge. Perhaps a nick along the edge from when the CD was living it's normal life.

The results can certainly be devastating when the over spun object has some mass to it. A quick search for "Flywheel Explosions" trans up some interesting eye opening events.
