    A Speedy Stitcher™ Sewing Block

I have no quarrel with my Speedy Stitcher. It is a very well designed tool. My problems are with how I was using it. Sure, it can punch through a thick stack of material with ease, but it can do the same with my hand. Furthermore, my stitching looks great on the top of the stack and awful on the flip side. Here is how I solved both problems.

These PDF's of yours are a tremendous resource. I have a whole folder set aside just for the ones I found especially helpful for my purposes, so thank you for taking the trouble to put these guides together!

One thing I saw was a mod which held the speedy stitcher in one of those "drill presses" which you put a standard electric hand-drill into (B&D, SKil, etc used to make them) - it basically allowed the force to be done with the rack and pinion, and the press table or a block supported the work (the one I saw had a hollow box as the table so your hands could control the lower thread easier)- no hands in the path of the needle. The other advantage of the drill press mod was the perpendicular path of the needle relative to the table.

I keep my eyes open for those drill press attachments to make one for my second speedy stitcher - keeping the first one "as original" for other work.

I put a hole in a piece of wood and it worked ok. But I like this so I will be copying your idea, thank you. Depending, I also use saddle stitching on fabric also.

I'm happy that you have found some value in my rantings. Before you use any of those pdf's, I suggest you check for the latest version. I normally add information over time.

I had to look up "saddle stitching". Although it looks like lock stitching, I can see that it is far stronger and more reliable. I assume you use two needles, and not the Speedy Stitcher.

    Thanks,

Need to replace the pull strap on TODCO rollup door of box truck. Don't care if ALL the others are single short loops, TM51 wants two. He ain't so tall.
Guess who's sewing block will aid assembling a dependable handle?
    Sincerely,
    Toolmaker51
