    It just seemed the simplest way to tighten the bolts was to use one of the extra washers I made as the spanner the holes are 5/16" so a couple of grade 8 bolts welded to a washer and a sacrificial socket welded to the center made perfect sense to me

    Reminds me of a spanner I used to use to tighten the very old style of trailer coupling with a whorled nut: a bent pin held it tight once tightened.
