    Sortimo Rack (metal)

It seems everyone who's anyone these days on you tube has built a "Sortimo" rack. Most people make them from plywood, I was looking for something to practice Tig welding on so I made mine out of 1-1/4" 16ga steel square tube, 1-1/2" angle iron and the top from 14ga sheet. It should withstand WWIII. I was originally going to enclose it with sheet metal but I really like the "skeleton" look it has.

It features a wash basin style top so you have a place to set the case when picking the item out you need. (trick here will be to keep that top shelf CLEAR! LOL)

Cases are from where else, Harbor Freight. I have eight 20 bin medium cases and the bottom two are the large 8 bin units for a total of 10 cases.

Nice ! But needs wheels. Almost everything in a shop should have wheels.

I was just about to say the same thing, beautiful build but where are the wheels!

By the way I’m saying this due to a crisis of space in my home shop. I literally just finished one rollable bench that has wheels simply to make it movable. I’m in the process of mental design to come up with rolling top carts for my small planer and a better router table. Wheels will be integrated in some manner to permit easy storage.

the only other option I could imagine is a pallet jack to move stuff that way. The reality is as you get older “easy to move” trumps just about everything! Moving things out of the way reduces congestion frustration.

Great post! I’ve been trying to organize and frankly it is a lot of work. I’ve used everything from kitchen cabinets to Milwaukee organizers to Arko-Mills drawers. I find you solution to be inspiring for the next round of clean up if or when that happens.

I had considered wheels but I think this will stay mostly in one spot. If I have to move it, I have a hand truck so I can just tip it back on that and move it without unloading it.

Just a small update, I finally got tired of playing the guessing game as to what bin the part was in I needed so I made some labels. H.F. didn't make it easy as these have a grain type finish and a seam running in the one good spot so just slapping a label on was not really an option.

So, I made up some aluminum tags, gave them a brush finish and clear coated them. Then using the Cricut cutting machine, I cut out a vinyl decal in matte black. Then just pop rivet them on!

Came out better than I imagined. (as you can see, I still have not filled all of them yet)

Oh yeah, I will probably be adding wheels as suggested since I had to move this about 3 times so far! lol

Hi Bill, the orange and white car is a 72 Chevelle and in another pic, the primer gray car is a 69 Chevelle.
